Hedley Hill entered the military service in California. He was called in the draft in the summer of 1917, leaving on September 19. He trained at Camp Lewis and went to France and served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private First Class in Company B, 1st Machine Gun Battalion, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on October 5, 1918 and is now buried in Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery and Memorial, Romagne-sous-Montfaucon, Departement de la Meuse, Lorraine, France.
