Michael Conolly was born on October 9, 1888 in County Galway, Ireland. Michael emigrated to Massachusetts and lived with a cousin in Lowell, MA. He entered the military service in Massachusetts and was sent overseas to France in July 1918. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Company A, 3rd Machine Gun Battalion, 1st Infantry Division. He stepped on a land mine and died near Sommerance, France on October 9, 1918 at the age of 30. He is now buried in Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery and Memorial, Romagne-sous-Montfaucon, Departement de la Meuse, Lorraine, France. His name is spelled as Micheal in his headstone.
