When Turner Branham was born on November 22, 1894, in Floyd, Kentucky, his father, John, was 27 and his mother, Nancy, was 19. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private First Class in Company C, 3rd Machine Gun Battalion, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action but declared "Missing" on October 5, 1918 while on an offensive and is memorialized on Tablets of the Missing, Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery and Memorial, Romagne-sous-Montfaucon, Departement de la Meuse, Lorraine, France. He has a memorial stone in Dennie Pig Cemetery, Boons Camp, Kentucky.
