He enlisted in the Army on October 2, 1917 and served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Company D, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on October 9, 1918 in France and is now buried in St. Wendelin Catholic Cemetery, Fostoria, Hancock County, Ohio, USA. His name is commemorated on the First Infantry Division monument in Saint-Juvin, France under the MISSING IN ACTION section.
