When Harvey James DeLong was born on March 19, 1893, in South Whitehall, Pennsylvania, his father, David, was 30 and his mother, Ellen, was 22. He had two brothers and one sister. He left his town and went to Camp Meade, where he remained until July and then sailed for France. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Company L, 316th Infantry Regiment, 79th Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on September 26, 1918 in Argonne Forest in France at the age of 25 and is now buried in Neffs Union Cemetery, Neffs, Lehigh County, Pennsylvania, USA.
