Norman Shaffer was born in April 1891 in Pennsylvania. Before entering the service he was employed in York by the S. Morgan Smith Co. He was sent to camp Dix where he received about six weeks training before being sent overseas. In April, 1918, he reached France where he served for six months as a member of a machine gun company. He was Killed in Action on October 6, 1918 in France at the age of 27 and is now buried in Dover Union Cemetery, Dover, York County, Pennsylvania, USA.
