Earl Eugene Waldvogle was born on December 10, 1894 in Dakota County, Nebraska. He was the son of Augustus Eugene Waldvogle and Marie Luella Harmon Gilbert. The family then moved to Akron, Colorado where he grew up. He was drafted in September 1917, arrived overseas in July of the following year and was immediately sent into action. Private Waldvogle served in many important battles with Company F, 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division in France. Private First Class Waldvogle was killed in action at the Battle of the Argonne Forest, France. He is now buried in Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery and Memorial, Romagne-sous-Montfaucon, Departement de la Meuse, Lorraine, France. His name is commemorated on the First Infantry Division monument in St. Juvin, France but his surname is inscribed as Walvogle and ranked as a Private.
