Harold Clifford Greer was born in July 1899 in Dickey, LaMoure County, North Dakota. He was the son of Joseph Eli Greer and Esther Jane Roscoe Greer. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Machine Gun Company, 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on October 4, 1918 at the age of 19 and is now buried in Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery and Memorial, Romagne-sous-Montfaucon, Departement de la Meuse, Lorraine, France. His name is commemorated on the First Infantry Division monument in St. Juvin, France but his surname is inscribed as Green.
