Neil Deforist Fenton was born in January 1896 in Nebraska, the son of Mrs.Emma and Clarence. He had three brothers and two sisters. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Corporal in Medical Detachment Company, 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on October 9, 1918 in France at the age of 23 and is now buried in American Cemetery, Romange, in the Argonne, France. He also has a cenotaph located in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson, Reno County, Kansas, USA. His name is commemorated on the First Infantry Division monument in St. Juvin, France but his first name's initial is inscribed as M.
