When John M. Gallagher was born in September 1895 in Pennsylvania, his father, Thomas, was 23 and his mother, Jane, was 22. He had three brothers and two sisters. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Corporal in Company C, 1st Engineer Combat Battalion, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on October 9, 1918 but his current burial place is unknown.
