Clyde Eugene Hennon was born September 29, 1887, and entered the service of the street railway company in Youngstown on March 12, 1915, serving continuously, first as motorman and then as conductor, till he was drafted on May 27, 1918.

He trained at Camp Gordon, Ga., before being deployed overseas with the 15th Company, 2nd Replacement Regiment of Infantry, in August, 1918. He was then assigned to Company E, 26th Infantry.

Private Hennon participated in the St. Mihiel drive in September, 1918. Next came the series of actions in the Argonne Forest and there he was killed in action on October 4, 1918.

His fate was not known for many months. First he was reported "missing in action" and then "killed in action" and then once more "missing," so that it was not till long after the signing of the armistice, early in June 1919, that official word came which showed that Private Hennon had indeed made the supreme sacrifice.
