When Anders Olof "Andrew Olaf" Eriksson Mattson was born on November 10, 1892, in Föllinge, Jämtland, Sweden, his father, Erick, was 29 and his mother, Martha, was 22. He had four brothers and one sister. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Company H, 28th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He died on October 8, 1918 in France at the age of 26 and is now buried in Riverside Cemetery, Warroad, Roseau County, Minnesota, USA. His name is commemorated on the First Infantry Division monument in St. Juvin, France under the MISSING IN ACTION section.
