Harold William Wieland, born in 1922 in Coffeyville, Montgomery County, Kansas was known as "Bud Wieland." When his family moved to St. Louis, Missouri, from Kansas, Bud attended and graduated in 1935 from the Gethsemane Lutheran School in St. Louis. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1943 and enlisted at Jefferson Barracks near St. Louis. In Italy, he was a Private First Class in the 363rd Infantry Regiment of the U.S. Army's 91st Division. He was killed in action on 12 July 1944 and is now buried in the Florence American Cemetery, Impruneta, Italy.
