Charles Lawrence Timm was born in 1890 in Hamburg, Erie County, New York. he served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Corporal in Company G, 102nd Infantry Regiment, 26th Infantry "Yankee" Division. He was Killed in Action on October 23, 1918 and is now buried in Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery and Memorial, Romagne-sous-Montfaucon, Departement de la Meuse, Lorraine, France. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company G, 102d Infantry Regiment, 26th Division, A.E.F., near Crepion, France, October 23, 1918. Corporal Timm, with the assistance of one other soldier, captured three enemy machine-guns and their crews which had held up the advance of his company. He was later killed in action in the Bois-de-la Reine. General Orders No. 32, War Department, 1919.
