@LT William Loomis was was born onAugust 1, 1921 in Redian Kansas. He served in the "Flying Tigers" in the China-Burma-India Theater.

He was killed in the Battle of Tengchong in China in 1944. He is remembered with a cenotaph in Tengchong, China.

The Emporia Gazette, 28 Oct 1947, Tuesday FIRST OF COUNTY'S WAR DEAD IS HONORED HERE Procession Preceded Last Rites for William Loomis, Reading, KS, a Flying Tiger Burial rites for Lt. William I. Loomis, of Reading, whose body was returned from the Pacific area Sunday, started at 1:30 o'clock this afternoon when the funeral cortege moved from the Roberts-Blue funeral home to the Civic auditorium. In front of the auditorium the marchers boarded buses and the procession moved on to Union cemetery, eight miles northeast of Emporia, where graveside military services were conducted by the American Legion and Rev. J. C. Brogan, pastor of the Admire Methodist church. Lieutenant Loomis, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Loomis, was killed in an airplane accident in the Indo-China theater while serving with the Flying Tigers. The Emporia State band led the procession along Sixth avenue east to the auditorium from the funeral home. Behind the band as the American Legion color guard, a military escort consisting of a portion of Company B, of the National Guard, the pall bearers and other Legion officials. A long procession of motorcars was behind the uniformed units of the procession. A large crowd along Sixth avenue gave respectful attention as the procession moved slowly to the auditorium.
