Gregory Paleologos entered the military service in Massachusetts. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in the 104th Infantry Regiment, 26th Infantry "Yankee" Division. He died on April 15, 1918 and is now buried in St. Mihiel American Cemetery, Thiaucourt, France. His name is commemorated on the Belleau Church tablet in France but his surname is inscribed as Paleologus.
