Moseley Hastings Gray was born on April 30, 1896 in Middletown Springs, Rutland County, Vermont. He was the son of Francis Leonidas Gray and Fanny L. Hastings Gray. He enlisted in the Army on May 4, 1917 at Ft. Ethan Allen. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private First Class in the 101st Machine Gun Battalion, 26th Infantry Division. He was killed by a shell-fire at Brabant Woods on October 23, 1918 and is now buried in Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery and Memorial, Romagne-sous-Montfaucon, Departement de la Meuse, Lorraine, France. He also has a cenotaph located in Pleasant View Cemetery, Middletown Springs, Rutland County, Vermont, USA.
