John H. Dewing was born on June 28, 1923 in Missoula, Missoula County, Montana. He was the son of John H. Dewing and Alma Poe Sitton Dewing. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Signalman First Class in the 2nd US Naval Beach Battalion, United States Naval Reserve. He died on June 6, 1944 during the invasion on Utah Beach, France. He is now buried in Normandy American Cemetery, Colleville-sur-Mer, France.
