Robert C. Wummer was born on November 16, 1922 in Reading, Berks County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Milton N. Wummer and Bessie F. Wummer. He enlisted in the Army on December 10, 1941, three days after Pearl Harbor. Robert had seen action in the landings in North Africa, Sicily and Italy, having been overseas nearly two years. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Sergeant in Company C, 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on June 7, 1944, one day after the Allies started their drive on Omaha Beach, France and is now buried in Normandy American Cemetery, Colleville-sur-Mer, France.
