Pfc. Willard Earl Dunn, was born in Sheffield, October 27, 1919. He attended the grade school and two years at the Warren High School, after moving to Tiona. Dunn enlisted in the army on July 31, 1939, and was stationed at Ft. Slocum, N.Y., until August 29, 1939, from there to Ft. Hancock, N.Y., and later sailed for the Panama Canal Zone, arrived about October 1, 1939, received his basic training in the Canal Zone at Ft. Clayton, where he was stationed until June 1, 1940 when he volunteered for duty with the guard and Service Co. at Corozal, C.Z. In July 1941, he volunteered for duty on a military mission to South America, returning in October to be sent back to the States, and arriving at Ft. Hamilton, N.Y., and later sent to Fort Devens, Mass., also receiving training at Camp Blandin, Fla., and Ft., Benning, Ga. Arrived in England July, 1942, taking part on the invasion of Africa and Sicily. Later returning to England. Sgt Dunn gave up his rating, to be transferred to Co. F. so as to be with the boys he served with in the Panama Canal Zone. He lost his life in the invasion of Normandy on June 6, 1944. He is now buried in Normandy American Cemetery, Colleville-sur-Mer, France.
