Arthur Blaine Herring, Jr. was born on December 2, 1922 in Brownsville, Fayette County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Arthur Blaine Herring and Elizabeth Tallentire Herring. Arthur served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Private First Class in Company H, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He died on June 6, 1944 during the invasion on Omaha Beach, France at the age of 21 and is now buried in Sylvan Heights Cemetery, Oliver, Fayette County, Pennsylvania, USA.
