Emmett Luther Mixon, Jr. was born on November 5, 1924 in Canoe, Escambia County, Alabama. He enlisted 24 June 1943 at Fort McClellan, Anniston, AL. Emmett served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Private in the 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on June 6, 1944 during the invasion on Omaha Beach, France at the age of 19 and is now buried in Canaan Freewill Cemetery, Canoe, Escambia County, Alabama, USA.
