George Towner Simmons was the son of Frederick Earl Simmons and Sarah E. Towner Simmons. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Staff Sergeant in the 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on June 6, 1944 during the invasion on Omaha Beach, France and is now buried in Oakwood Cemetery, Syracuse, Onondaga County, New York, USA.
