Milton Lincoln Coppernoll was born on June 15, 1922 in Ephratah, Fulton County, New York. He was the son of Jacob Lincoln Coppernoll and Eva Julia Kretser Coppernoll. He entered the military service on Nov. 10, 1942; received his basic training at Fort Bragg, N. C.; transferred to Camp Kilmer, N. J. He left on April 4, 1943 for overseas to serve in the North African Campaign; later saw service in Sicily and Italy and was then sent to England for a rest period. He was with the first Division that landed in France on D-Day when he was killed in action. He received (posthumously) the Purple Heart and was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in action.
