Mack Shields was born on May 20, 1924 in Alabama. He was the son of McClellan Charles Shields and Josephine Olivia Carnes Shields. Mack served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Private First Class in the 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He died on June 6, 1944 in France at the age of 20 and is now buried in Forest Hill Cemetery, Birmingham, Jefferson County, Alabama, USA.
