Vernon C. McDaniel was born on March 24, 1922 in West Virginia. He was the son of James Lewis McDaniel and Bessie Mae Edwards McDaniel. Vernon served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Private in Company K, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on June 6, 1944 during the invasion on Omaha Beach, France at the age of 22 and is now buried in Rosedale Cemetery, Martinsburg, Berkeley County, West Virginia, USA.
