Cecil Edward Read, Jr. was born on December 12, 1924. He was the son of Cecil Edward Read and Ethyle R. Aird Read. Cecil served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Private in the 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He died on June 6, 1944 during the invasion on Omaha Beach, France at the age of 19 and is now buried in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Newport News, Newport News City, Virginia, USA.
