Raymond L. Shane was born in 1920 in Maine. He enlisted in the Army on November 19, 1940, prior to the war, in Portland, Maine. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a lumbermen and also as Single, without dependents. He resided in Cumberland County, Maine prior to the war. Raymond served as a Private First Class, 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, U.S. Army during World War II. He died from his wounds received in battle on June 8, 1944 in France and is now buried in Normandy American Cemetery, Colleville-sur-Mer, France.
