Jessie Wilbur Smith was born on October 2, 1914. He was the son of Alonzo I. Smith and Nina R. Royal Smith. Jessie served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Private in the 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He died on June 6, 1944 during the invasion on Omaha Beach, France at the age of 29 and is now buried in Harmony Methodst Church Cemetery, Millhaven, Screven County, Georgia, USA.
