While leading the 394th B-26 bomber group against the railroad bridge over the Oise River at L'Isle Adam, North of Paris Captain Lindsey's right engine took a direct hit, engulfing the bomber's wing in flames. Although the B-26 was severely damaged, Lindsey was able to maintain the lead and complete the bombing run. He then held the plane level until his crew was able to bail out safely. Before Captain Lindsey was able to bail out, his Bomber exploded and crashed. Captain Lindsey was the only Marauder Bomber Pilot to receive the Medal of Honor for service in World War II.
