Harley Steve “Chopper” Warren was born on November 15, 1947 in Hickory, Catawba County, North Carolina. He was a part of a 50-man unit of the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization in Beirut. The group, a 300-man force composed of members from 25 nations, was created to supervise the 1948 truce between the Arabs and Israel. On September 25, 1947, he, together with the members of a special United Nations observer force, were killed when their jeep hit a mine near Beirut. He is now buried in the Catawba Memorial Park, Hickory, Catawba County, North Carolina, USA.
