Bruce A. Hollingshead was born on May 13, 1964. He graduated from Park Hills High School in Fairborn in 1982. He was a wrestler and discus thrower. He joined the Marines under a delayed-enlistment program while still in high school. He entered boot camp at Parris Island, S.C., on July 7, 1982, and graduated from infantry school in April 1983. Bruce served in the United States Marine Corps as a Lance Corporal. He was killed in the terrorist bombing of the United States Marine barracks. In the early morning hours of 23 Oct. 1983, a truck loaded with explosives crashed through the security perimeter of the USMC Barracks in Beirut, Lebanon. In the explosion that followed, 241 US Military personnel were killed and 80 serious wounded. He is now buried in the Byron Cemetery, Fairborn, Greene County, Ohio, USA.
