David Allen Lewis was born on November 29, 1960 in Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio. He was graduated from Lutheran East High School, in June of 1979. He was both a good student and an exceptional athlete. He was awarded a certificate as the "Best Defensive Player" on the Basketball team and was also a standout on the varsity football team. After graduation he joined the Marine Corps and graduated from the Marine Basic Training at Parris Island, South Carolina, in November of 1979. Following completion of his schooling he graduated as Procedure Clerk at Camp LeJeune, North Carolina. He was promoted to Lance Corporal and received a good conduct medal in August of 1982; Marine awards in football and basketball and a meritorious certificate for outstanding services in performance of duty. In May, 1983, he was promoted to a Corporal. Lewis was sent to Lebanon as part of the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission. He worked as a storekeeper. David was killed in the terrorist bombing of the United States Marine barracks. In the early morning hours of 23 Oct. 1983, a truck loaded with explosives crashed through the security perimeter of the USMC Barracks in Beirut, Lebanon. In the explosion that followed, 241 US Military personnel were killed and 80 serious wounded. He is now buried in the Highland Park Cemetery, Highland Hills, Cuyahoga County, Ohio, USA.
