John William Macroglou was born on August 23, 1949 in Wellston, Jackson County, Ohio. He enlisted in the Marines in April 1971 after graduating from Duquesne University with a bachelor's degree in political science. He was a 1967 graduate of Center High School. He left North Carolina's Fort LeJeune for Lebanon and served as a Major. John William was killed in the terrorist bombing of the United States Marine barracks. In the early morning hours of 23 Oct. 1983, a truck loaded with explosives crashed through the security perimeter of the USMC Barracks in Beirut, Lebanon. In the explosion that followed, 241 US Military personnel were killed and 80 serious wounded. He is now buried in the Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Arlington County, Virginia, USA.
