Michael Joseph Hasenfus was born on August 22, 1963 in Needham, Norfolk County, Massachusetts. He had enlisted in the Army after he graduated from Dedham High School in 1981. Michael served in the United States Marine Corps as a Corporal. At some point between 1983-84, he was part of one of the 17 Mobile Training Teams sent into Lebanon to advise and train the Lebanese army. He died in an accident in Beirut, Lebanon, where he was serving with the 10th Special Forces. He is now buried in the Brookdale Cemetery, Dedham, Norfolk County, Massachusetts, USA.
