Lt. Donald C. Auble was born in Barberton March 10, 1921. He was a graduate of Lodi high school. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps and received his commission at Turner field, Albany, GA in May 1943. Upon completion of his training, Lt. Auble flew overseas. He was interned for a month in Portugal after having been forced down over that country. After his return to the United States he was assigned to the China-Burma-India theater to fly supplies over the "Hump." He was Killed in Action on August 11, 1945 at the age of 24 in Kunming, Yunnan, China and is now buried in the Massillon City Cemetery, Massillon, Stark County, Ohio, USA. At the time of his death, Lt. Auble was in charge of 30 pilots and had been recommended for promotion in the rank of Captain.

Auble was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
