Elton L. Aultman was born on February 11, 1917. He graduated from the Midland School of the West Texas Bombardier Triangle, receiving his Second Lieutenant bars and silver wings there in the Army Air Forces. He was transferred from Brice, CA to Lincoln, NE. He was transferred overseas by way of Iceland, but also spent time at bases in India and China. He was reported missing on January 25, 1944 between China and India but returned safely. He estimated that he had sunk 10,000 tons of Japanese shipping. Elton was killed in an airplane crash in China on May 28, 1944. No details were available at that time, but later his nephew procured a copy of the War Departments official accident report. The mission involved the 373rd Bomb Squadron and ten men were lost on his B-24J. Cause of the crash was listed as unknown. He is now buried in the Oak Ridge Cemetery, Tifton, Tift County, Georgia, USA.

Aultman was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
