Max C. Baca, Jr. served in the 677th Bombardment Squadron, 444th Bombardment Group as a Master Sergeant and an Engineer of the B-29 aircraft. He was serving aboard B-29 Superfortress #42-6228, when it crashed and burned in Assam, India, while on mission to China. Eleven other crewmembers also killed. He is now buried in the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, Lemay, St. Louis County, Missouri, USA in a common grave with his crew and listed on a group headstone.

Baca was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
