Armand E. Bastien was born on August 27, 1914 in Lowell, Middlesex County, Massachusetts. He served in the 491st Bomber Squadron, 341st Bomber Group, Medium as a Corporal. He was declared "Missing in Action" on January 15, 1944, presumed Killed in Action, when the the plane he was a passenger in went down while flying over the "Hump". He is commemorated on the Walls of the Missing, Manila American Cemetery, Taguig City, Philippines.

Bastien was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China but his name is inscribed as Amond Bestien and death date as 1944-12-07.
