Duane John Beal was born on January 20, 1921 in Lamesa, Dawson County, Texas. He was the son of Albert Andrew Beal and Nancy Graham Fambrough. He served in the US Air Corps as a First Lieutenant and Pilot of an aircraft. Duane died on August 23, 1944 at the age of 23 and is now buried in the Glen Haven Memorial Park, Sylmar, Los Angeles County, California, USA.

He was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China but death date is inscribed as 1944-02-22.
