Gustaves S. Bernardo, Jr. was born on April 14, 1923. He entered the service on October 23, 1942 and served in the 1327th Base Unit as a Private First Class and Radio Operator of an aircraft during World War II. Gustave died on September 9, 1944 at the age of 21 and is now buried in the Brookside Cemetery, Englewood, Bergen County, New Jersey, USA. He was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
