William Henry Blum was born on June 8, 1921 in North Carolina. He was the son of Walter Henry Blum and Lena Mae Kemp Blum. William served in the Air Corps as a Private First Class and Radio Operator of an aircraft in World War II. He was killed on October 10, 1944, in a plane crash at Hong Kong, China. He is now buried in the Green Hill Cemetery, Greensboro, Guilford County, North Carolina, USA. William was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
