Donald Willfred Boyd was born on October 22, 1919 in Dallas, Dallas County, Texas. He was the son of John W. Boyd and Mary Etta Duncan Boyd. He was graduated from Forest Avenue High School in 1936 and joined the Air Corps in April 1942. Volunteering for foreign service, Captain Boyd was sent to the China-Burma-India sector in June 1943 as a member of the Transport Command. He later took part in the Burma campaign under General Stilwell, bringing ammunition and supplies into the theater and taking wounded out. Boyd was killed in Burma on June 8, 1944, while flying a transport plane during World War II. He is now buried in the Restland Memorial Park, Dallas, Dallas County, Texas, USA. He was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
