James C. Carey, aged 23, was born on May 16, 1922. He resided in Connecticut prior to the war. James served as a First Lieutenant and Pilot on a B-25J #43-27807, 11th Bomber Squadron, 341st Bomber Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.
On 20 June 1945, Lt James C. Carey was piloting 11th Bomb Squadron B-25J #43-27807 on a mission to attack and destroy multiple bridges in IndoChina (Vietnam). Lt Fred M. Carey was his Co-Pilot, and his brother. In the course of performing a low-level bomb run, the aircraft appeared to go out of control and crash near the target, a railroad bridge at Quang Tri, IndoChina. James was originally interred in the Schofield Mausoleum #2, Honolulu, Hawaii and was later repatriated in Long Island National Cemetery, East Farmingdale, Suffolk County, New York on July 12. 1949 in a common grave with his crew.
James was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
