T/Sgt. Glenn Beuford Carnes, born June 6, 1913, in Texas, son of Ann E. Carnes and the late A. P. Carnes, Ft. Worth, volunteered December 26, 1941, with the Army Air Force; trained at various fields in the States and began overseas duty April, 1 944. He was assigned to China-Burma-India Theater with the 24th Combat Mapping Squadron, 8th Photo Reconnaissance Group, and was killed August 11, 1944, while on a mission to Kunming, China. The plane fell in the jungled Naga Hills in India. Sgt. Carnes was an aerial engineer on plane and was well esteemed by all that knew him for his dependable character and winning personality. The Purple Heart, Presidential Citation, State of Texas Citation among other Ribbons were awarded posthumously. He is now buried in the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, Lemay, St. Louis County, Missouri, USA in a common grave with his crew.
Glenn was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945.
