Robert S. Carson, aged 22, was born on July 22, 1921. He was the son of Oscar Alexander Carson and Frances Stephenson Carson. He was accepted as an air cadet shortly after Pearl Harbor and was stationed at Craig Field, Alabama as an instructor when he volunteered for overseas duty. At the time of his enlistment, Lt. Carson was attending Michigan Institute of Technology. He graduated from Orlando Senoir High School in 1939 and attended Duke University for two years.

Robert served as a Pilot in the US Army Air Forces Transport Command. It was his job to ferry vital supplies to China and other fronts. He died on April 28, 1944 and is now buried in the Zachary Taylor National Cemetery, Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky, USA. He also has a cenotaph located in Greenwood Cemetery, Orlando, Orange County, Florida.

Robert was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China but death date is inscribed as 1944-04-27.
