George F. Chesebro, aged 22, was born on January 2, 1922. He served in the 678th Bomber Squadron, 444th Bomber Group as a Staff Sergeant and Gunner of an aircraft during World War II. Staff Sergeant Cheseboro perished when U.S. Army Air Corps B-29-10-BW Superfortress #42-6323, nicknamed "Eileen" crashed and burned in India. All eleven crewmembers were killed. He died on June 26, 1944 and is now buried in the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Honolulu, Honolulu County, Hawaii, USA. He was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China but his surname is inscribed as Cheseboro.
