Comments:

Albert Chibnik was born in 1915 in Massachusetts. He resided in Middlesex County, Massachusetts prior to the war. He enlisted in the Army on August 16, 1940, prior to the war, in Boston, Massachusetts. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a mechanic and also as Single, without dependents. Albert served as a Staff Sergeant and Radio Operator / Gunner on B-25H #43-4363, 490th Bomber Squadron, 341st Bomber Group, Medium, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

B-25H #43-4363 took off, with a crew of 6 and other B-25's, from Kurmitola, India on a low level bombing and strafing mission on a bridge in Bawgyo, Burma (Myanmar). They did not return to their base after the mission. It was noted by airmen from other B-25's that a plane that they believed to be another B-25, possibly B-25H #43-4363, appeared to have engine problems as they saw white smoke coming from it and the plane eventually crashed into a sloping hill.

Albert was declared "Missing in Action" on February 26, 1944 and is commemorated on the Walls of the Missing, Manila American Cemetery, Taguig City, Philippines. He was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is also commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China but death date is inscribed as 1943-08-12.
