Robert A. Christ served as a Staff Sergeant and Gunner on the 444th Bomber Group, 677th Bombardment Squadron. He perished aboard B-29 Superfortress #42-6228, when it crashed and burned in Assam, India, while on mission to China. Eleven other crewmembers also killed. He died on August 2, 1944 and is now buried in the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, Lemay, St. Louis County, Missouri, USA.
Robert was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
