Leonard Richard Colville, Jr. was born in 1920 in Tennessee. Lt. Colville was a C-47 transport co-pilot, assigned to the 2nd Troop Carrier Squadron based at Dinjan, India. He was killed in the crash of a transport plane in Burma in June 11, 1944. Five of the six crew members were killed when their plane struck a mountain. Leonard is now buried in the Chattanooga Memorial Park, Chattanooga, Hamilton County, Tennessee, USA. He was one of over 2000 Americans who lost their lives defending China from their Japanese invaders from 1941-1945. He is commemorated on the The Monument to the Aviation Martyrs in the War of Resistance Against Japan in Nanjing, China.
